Digital Realty Accelerates Secure Finance Networking with SCION

The financial sector across the DACH region is undergoing significant transformation. With increased digitization, the rise of fintechs, and tightening regulatory standards, the pressure on secure and scalable network infrastructure has never been higher. Digital Realty is stepping forward with a clear answer: SCION.

Developed at ETH Zurich, SCION (Scalability, Control and Isolation on Next-Generation Networks) redefines secure connectivity. Unlike traditional internet protocols, SCION enables financial institutions to predefine and monitor exact paths for their data—ensuring integrity, resilience, and full compliance with regulatory requirements such as Switzerland’s nDSG, the EU’s MiFID II, and the newly enforced DORA framework.

Digital Realty operates the world’s first SCION node within a colocation environment, made available globally via PlatformDIGITAL® and orchestrated by ServiceFabric®. This gives financial firms trusted access to one of the most secure and transparent routing models available today.

Over 300 institutions have already joined the SCION-based Secure Swiss Finance Network (SSFN), which is backed by the Swiss National Bank and SIX. With native protection against BGP hijacking, DDoS attacks, and the ability to enforce geographical data boundaries (geofencing), SCION addresses growing cybersecurity threats with precision.

For financial institutions facing increasing regulatory and operational complexity, SCION offers a robust foundation to secure transactions, maintain data sovereignty, and ensure network resilience—all within an infrastructure trusted by the most security-conscious sectors.
